Are Yours Truck Camper Batteries Parallel or Series ?

Are Your Batteries Parallel or Series?

There are two different methods of connecting two batteries in your Truckcamper, parallel or series.

The parallel connection will increase the amperage of your battery bank. The battery bank connection is:

  • The Positive post of the first battery is connected to the positive post of the second battery.
  • The Negative post of the first battery is connected to the negative post of the second battery.
  • Your camper’s Positive cable is connected to the first battery’s positive post.
  • Your camper’s Negative cable is connected to the second battery’s Negative post.

When you connect to the battery bank in this manner, you will double the available amperage without increasing the battery bank voltage.

Series connection is used when you have two 6-volt batteries and need to increase the voltage of your battery bank to 12-volts. The connections in this type of battery bank are different than parallel.  Connecting the batteries will increase the voltage of your battery bank without increasing amperage.

  • The first battery’s Negative post is connected to the positive post of the second battery.
  • Your camper’s Negative cable is connected to the first battery’s Negative post.
  • Your camper’s Positive cable is connected to the second battery’s Positive post.
  • Connecting your batteries to increase the voltage of your battery bank voltage will not increase the amperage of the battery bank.
