Amana
The Pietism, a religious movement from Germany, purchased 5,000 acres near Buffalo, New York in the 18th century. Needing more land for their growing community, they purchased and moved the community to Iowa and established seven villages.
The last community to be incorporated was Homestead – which provided the communities with access to the railroad. There is no platform for arriving or departing passengers for only freight trains use the tracks today – at least the ticket agent stays cool with his air conditioner.
