Oil testing provides essential information to assess your engine’s condition, whether diesel or gasoline.

Routine oil sampling of your truck’s engine oil can be beneficial and key to a successful maintenance program.

The first few oil changes will establish the baseline of normal wear.

As your mileage increases, Engine gaugea regularly maintained sampling program of oil tests at each oil change can provide valuable information about the engine’s health and indicate when abnormal wear or contamination occurs.

Routine S.O.A.P. provides

  • Lubricant Condition: A lubricant’s condition indicates whether the fluid is healthy, fit for further service, or ready for replacement. It will indicate if the interval between oil changes needs to be adjusted.
  • Identification of Contaminants: The increase of contaminants, such as dirt, water, and engine wear, is the leading cause of engine degradation and failure. Increased contamination indicates it is time to save the oil and avoid unnecessary engine wear.
  • Indication of Engine Wear: Wear particles can be generated in large quantities by an unhealthy engine. Detecting and analyzing these particles helps make critical maintenance decisions.

It is undeniable that understanding what is happening inside your engine and detecting problems early are vital to predictive maintenance. Routine oil analysis will alert you to potential problems, save time and money, and protect your engine.

Sampling a Gas/Diesel Engine

  • Avoid starting the engine before sampling; that can introduce fuel into the oil.

  • Try to get to the middle of the drain. The first oil might catch dirt on the drain plug. If you wait until the end, you might run out of oil. For testing, 3 oz is required to run all tests. If you don’t have that much, that’s fine.

  • If you’re using a pump, thread the tubing down the dipstick, but don’t force it. If it doesn’t go through, there may be a blockage, or you may need different tubing.
  • Fill out the info slip. Note on the slip: make-up oil refers to the amount of oil you add between oil changes.

Wrap the gray absorbent material around the white bottle. Place the bottle and slip in the postage-free label envelope.
